Doing Pretty Good

Current Mood:Reflective emoticon Reflective

Wow…it has gotten a bit chillier, at least when the wind picks up….bbrrr

I’ve been doing good on getting my work and lists done. Overall, I’ve been staying pretty focus. I do like it when that happens, means my life is where it should be at. =)

I need to figure out how I want to start getting my exercise. The last few times I went roller skating I wiped out. So not cool. =( And it has been when others are around. Now I’m wondering if they are getting in my head and without having wrist guards, I don’t want to be wiping out and break my wrist. I have the knee, elbow pads and mouth guard….but no wrist guards. When you fall that is one the spots easy to break because you instinctively put your hands down even though logically you know better.

Either way, I need to do something….butt is getting too big. I really do miss the routine and discipline of the gym…..we did that for 4yrs, normally 5days a week.

Taking the 4/5hr drive down to Oregon this week to clean out one of our storage units. Looking forward to Oregon, not looking forward to the long drive there and back. Also need to put a few things in the other unit and take a few things out….like unburying my bowling ball….even if I haven’t bowled in years….lol…at least I’ll have it when we do.

Been seeing a lot of immature eagles, which is so totally cool! Never get tired of them. We saw a river otter the other day. And next week, we are meeting up with birders we meet in AZ to learn more about the local birds around here. I do miss other birders for learning.

We had our close friends come out this weekend with their dog. =) We had a lot of good smoke, wine, chili and talk. A lot of inside jokes about our dysfunctional untrustworthy morally wrong relationships…..grin At one time or another, we each had been told one of those things….so with the four of us, it works…lol Love the selfie hubby got of all of us….even got their dog in the back ground. Love that we are going to be closer to them this summer. Hoping to pop over for visits more often.

Right now, I’m in a weird place mood wise….nothing to that is making me unhappy or stressed more then usually, think it is just my hormones. I started my cycle last Fri and it has been in and out since, small twinges of things that aren’t leading to anything….I want it to fully start so I can get the damn thing over with. I was fine mood wise until today, I ended up with heartburn the night before and it SUCKS!! I just wanted to die…..blah. That is what happens when your tums is buried in the meds cabinet so you forgot to take it before bed. That is not happening tonight. So that just totally tired me out since I should’ve been sleeping and the being in the cycle….not a good combo…blah!

Shaved my arm pits tonight. Had hubby take a clippers to it and I finished it up in the shower. It was odd having all the hair and now a little odd not having it. I think I quit shaving it before we left AZ in Oct. But it was now starting to annoy me and felt like it was getting pulled on my shirts and such. I need to remember to take a pic of the newly smooth pits. =)

15th Anniversary Camping Plans

Current Mood:

A little back story, when we chose our wedding date, I was just thinking of trying to avoid the jump in prices that a summer wedding always brings. And our wedding ended up on May 31st….big mistake, always stuck dealing with holiday stuff and with my current job, I have end of the month stuff to deal with…blah We should’ve stuck with the Oct date…..lol

Now when we plan to celebrate our anniversary, it is normally anywhere from a few days to a few weeks that we do our plans. Since we’ve moved to Oregon, we’ve tried to see different parts of the northwest, especially our adopted state. We’ve done 3 trips to the Oregon Coast to get it covered, camped in the Red Woods and now we are finally going to head to John Day Nat’l Monuments this week.

It is about a 4hr drive to the 1st campsite of Bull Prairie Lake, just north of the 3 parts of the John Day Nat’l Monuments. We want to see the Painted Hills and the Clarno Unit after we set up camp Tuesday. Then Wednesday, pack up and head to the Sheep Rock Unit to do this 4mi hike : http://bp2.trimbleoutdoors.com/ViewTrip.aspx?tripId=536378

Hoping to get our 2nd campsite in Malheur National Forest before all the sites get taken. But with it being mid-week and school still in, the odds are on our side. =) Thursday we’ll come out of the Nat’l Forest at Baker City and jump on 84 for the 5-6hr drive to head home.

The weather keeps going from overcast to sunny…..lows at night in the 40s and highs in the 60s/70s, really hoping it works out and we get to see some stunning scenery. Totally looking forward to some hikes, even if not looking forward to the drive…..lol

Right now, I want to get more done, work wise and for the camping…..but keep thinking I’m missing something…..grin Never ending cycle.

Long Time….

Current Mood:

It has been a long while.  It has been busy.  For the month of July we had our nephews.  That was interesting.  Not use to having kids around on an everyday basis.  But it was fun.

Hubby had talks with them, the normal right and wrongs, helping mom, being brothers.  Tried to teach them to clean up after themselves, clean up around the house without being asked…..we’ll see if anything sticks…lol  But at that age, you can only try.

Trillium Lake

We took them on a small hike on Mt Hood, to the Oregon Zoo, and then we took them back to Canada and had an extended family camping the first weekend of Aug at Cultus Lake.  Spent one of those days at the water park….that was a ton of fun.  That weekend was full of lots of food, talk and good times with 48 people.  =)

Most of July, we had below average temps and above average rain….during our “dry” season.  We finally started getting decent weather towards the end.  So didn’t do as much with the boys as we really wanted to.  But still had fun. =)

We did have a fun gift for the boys uncle….grin  This is something college fans, especially Big Ten fans would appreciate.  Their uncle is a HUGE Michigan fan and you know, our loyalties is with Purdue….sooo..  We decided to give their uncle something to remember us by.  We all dressed in Purdue gear, hung a Purdue flag and took a picture that we printed out and put into a Purdue frame, so he can put it in his Michigan room….grin  As he said, it is the people in the picture that matters, not what we were wearing……LOL

Kalaloch Beach, Olympic National Park

[/caption]A week after we got back we decided to go for a small trip.  We never drove up the 101 coast of WA….BIG mistake.  We were expecting it to be scenic like Northern California and all of Oregon….wow, disappointing.  The first part of it, you had all the sloughs….which were kind of cool to see.  And the Kalaloch Beach of the Olympic National Park, was really cool….that is what we expected to see more of.  But the rest of the drive was boring…..no really scenic areas, just tunnel trees and what scenic areas there were….like 2 of them, there were no pull offs to enjoy them.

Hubby had done some research and found where we wanted to try and get a site.  Well, that was totally full.  =(  And then we visited like 5 more sites before we found a place to camp.  This was the first time we have never made reservations.  People made fun of us for that, well, we’ll stick with making reservations.

We camped lite, food wise.  Took some dehydrated foods, a few subs and oatmeal….kind of nice not to have a lot of bunch of excess of stuff, but kind of weird.

We got our site at Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge…..it was really nice.  Had enough camp sites, it was well maintained.  We would like to go back to and do more exploring.

Trail at Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge

Dungeness Spit

The next day we had a dilliema, we were going to try and visit friends or go to Hurricane Ridge, Olympic National Park in the opposite direction.  We really wanted to see our friends, but the whole point of the trip was the site seeing and any hiking we can get in.  So we decided on Hurricane Ridge….totally worth it!  This is what we expected and wanted.

Zoomed in on Mt Baker from one of the pull overs on the way up to the Ridge

At Hurricane Ridge

We so totally want to go back and do some camping at the base and do some hiking up there.  There was still snow up there while there was a stunning amount of wildflowers everywhere.  Loved it!  I highly recommend it.  It helped to make up for they day before, that was a big disappointment.

On our drive out we saw signs for the Olympic Game Farm in Sequim.  We drove through Sequim, WA and found that it was the most pretty town we have ever driven through….lavender every where.  We both enjoyed and didn’t like the Olympic Game Farm, the reason why we didn’t like it is only because we hate seeing animals caged/fenced up.  We know that they are there for a reason and are taken care of and we love seeing them close up, but rather see them in the wild.  We did enjoy feeding them wheat bread.  =)

A Kodiak Beer telling me to give him another piece of bread....LOL

A Yak, they are not shy on getting close to get a treat. =)

So at least our trip ended on a high note.  =)  We are already planning on next trip.  Trying for Mt Rainer again, by the back roads….got turned around last time.  But we know were we got turned around, so going to be more careful…..we ended up on roads that weren’t on the map…..lol

I have gotten myself back into reading.  Kind of helped that our Borders is going out of business and I’ve made a few trips.  I finally got the finally 2 books of The Clan of The Cave Bears series….been almost 20yrs since I read the Plains of Passage.  It is going to suck not to have a big bookstore near by.  I love Powells, but don’t want to have to head into PDX all the time for that.  That is life.  =)

What have I been I up to?

Current Mood:Accomplished emoticon Accomplished & Tired emoticon Tired

What have I been I up to?  Pretty much a bunch of work and breaking it up by going to the gym…..that is the story that my tweets tell and boy, it is so true.

My responsibilities at work have really expanded, we have been restructuring and I’ve taken on another client when it comes to doing books.

It has taken me about 3 intense weeks around my other work to get 9 months worth of my clients transactions entered into quickbooks. Still have a few more things to get done, but waiting on info from banks to get it entered.  Going to send a copy of what I have done to his CPA so we can get things tidied it up.  I know something has probably been missed in the rush to get everything entered.

I do have to say that with the big load of work that I had to do quickly, I’m pretty happy with how much I have got done in such a short amount of time.  There were parts that were driving me nuts that I finally got under control, felt so damn good.

Before all of that really hit, we finally drive down to Crater Lake National Park and camped for the night.  We waited until after Labor Day so the kids would be in school.  Even then it was more crowded then expected. Got the last campsite at the campground….lucked out. It was cold, with sprinkles of rain.  We totally lucked out on the weather….it could’ve been much worst….lol

This was right after we entered the park, the Pumice Desert

Crater Lake was STUNNING!  We got enough sun and blue sky that the blue of the lake was breath taking.  Actually sleep much more comfortable this round of camping then last.  Used an air mattress and blankets instead of just our sleeping bags and mats. Totally saved our old backs and kept us warm when the temp hit the 30s.  =)

The next day while driving around the rim.  Clouds moved in and it snowed in some spots

We headed out to Denver at the end of month to start all of my new work.  It was a very busy and very intense week.  We did take a day off and headed up to Rocky Mountain National Park with our friends.  That was really cool.  The highest point (elevation wise) was 12,090 ft.  We have never been that high while on land.  We also lucked out and got a stunning fall day.  =)  I would love to go back and find a few hikes to do there.

Last weekend was the 1st weekend in over a month that I was able to work on things for myself….not work related.  It was so nice and so weird.  I may not get the full weekend off this one due to payroll prep, but Saturday will be all mine.  =)  Just not sure what I want to do with it.  I’m not sure if I’m mentally prepared to attack our office closet yet.  There are so many computer cds that I need to good through and get rid of.  It is kind of scary….so I need to really mentally prepare myself.  Maybe I should do it, by one organize container at time…..icks

I also need to clean out my costume jewelry and start on the holiday letter……leaning more to that for tomorrow…lol

My handy work. =)

Hubby’s got sick…..lol

We finally picked up pumpkins today, they look good.  I really wasn’t sure if I was going to do give out candy thing this year.  We really don’t get many kids, it is going to be rainy, and just the doing it with it being payroll time.  But I do enjoy it….the kids seem to like my witches outfit.  =)  This year hubby suggested getting a huge spider and have it drop when I open the door to scare the kids…..he got it set up.  Looks really cool…I really hope that it scares them.

Say hello to Herman!  Creepy eyes….lol

That is everything in a nut shell right now.  Pretty much just spending my life working…..lol

Trying to Organizing My Life

Current Mood:Accomplished emoticon Accomplished & Beautiful Day emoticon Beautiful Day & Chilling emoticon Chilling

A lot of my updates have been through tweets most of the time.  Mainly since nothing really major normally goes on, unless it is our cats.  But I’ll try and sum up what I have been doing.

I still keep looking for Alexis, but getting better, it helps that we have her ashes back.  Weird not to have her yelling at me in the bathroom to pet her. =(  I still need to organize all of the pictures we took during the last few days that she was with us.  Drew and Sakura are great distractions, they are so young, feisty and so full of personality….not a day goes by that I’m not grateful that hubby brought them home.

Last month my extra mom lost her husband of 50+yrs  =(  And there was family drama.  I tried to call to give support to her and my sister.  With all the drama, I was hoping it would help to give them someone to vent to.  I really wish I would’ve been able to fly out and be there from them.  Even if I would just be the bad guy for them and tell the other family members off.  The rest of the family is no skin off of my back, there are only 2 that matter to me.  =)

This summer we now have 2 hummingbird feeders and 2 blooming fuchsias…finally started to get more the one hummingbird.  We have at least 3 of them hanging around.  They will hover above our heads while outside…love it!  It is really cool, didn’t know that they could be so vocal.  Last year we had at least 1 scrub blue jay, this year at least 4 and holy cow are they noisy as heck.  They are pretty, but so annoying ear wise…..ggeezzz

We brought 2 tomato plants this spring, then it rain way above normal and we thought it killed them. At the time, we thought we did something wrong or brought bad plants until they ran a story on the news and a lot of people were having the same problem.   So we brought 2 more, planted those into our planters and put the others in the ground, really not expecting them to live much less produce any tomatoes.  Well, they actually have tomatoes on them and other 2 are going nuts. We’ve already had 1 tomato off of the early girl bush and and about 5 off of the oregon spring. They have been so sweet and tasty.  They are great on french bread with tillamook extra sharp white cheddar cheese…wow.

Work wise, I’m getting more responsibility added, which is good thing.  Still working out the details to see what I can do to help out.  Looking forward to that.  I do a bit of everything at work, I really can’t even describe what I do….I guess I’m the catch all and what I don’t know or do, I know who does…..lol

Only issue that has been driving me nuts work wise is a wire that I sent out on the July 30th still has not been received!  What the heck?!?  I’ve been ordering a wire to this account info for 2yrs now and never had an issue before.

Now I do everything online or by phone, the only time I go to our local branch is make a deposit through the drive thru.  Well, due to this issue everything needs to be done at the branch…it is to the point that they now know me by my first name….ggeezz  I wouldn’t mind going in so much if it wasn’t for the same issue.  Gave up on getting the wire delivered and did a recall, fingers crossed, I will have it back in a few days and I can take care of the contractor by another and faster method.

I have finally taken the time to go through all of my stuff.  For those who don’t know me, I’m a pack rat in for sentimental stuff…..  I still have a stuffed pillow that I was given when I was about 2 in Germany, if that tells you anything, my Baltimore Orioles shirt from when I was about 9….lol.  Well, I have  bunch of pictures, every note/letter/card my parents ever gave me and nearly every card/letter/note since junior HS.  And it was all over the place, location wise….including under the bed.  I have every little note my hubby has ever given me….lol…I know nuts. =)

Now when I tweet about going under the bed, it is really a project.  This is what we have in king size : http://www.storagebedstore.com/IVG2/N/ProductID-8593.htm

So you have to move the mattress and then the plywood that the mattress sits on.  There is a big space between the drawers under there that is excellent for storage, but a pain to get to it on a regular basis and with it being king size, one person can’t do it.  So I have to pester my hubby for help….grin  But I totally love our bed set, just don’t want to have to move it….icks…

A few weeks ago I started going through everything.  I went through all the pictures I’ve ever taken (mainly from Alaska) and all the pictures that were my grandmothers’, brought some photo albums (weren’t even sure they still made those…lol)  Luckily one of my grandma’s photo album wasn’t full so I was able to put a bunch of pictures in there.

I also finally got all of hubby & my ticket stubs to rock concerts, football games and other memorabilia organized and out of our photo album.  I went through and organized every letter by who sent it and postmark date, even organized the notes that I passed in school….lol Got all my cards organized, HS grad, college grad, wedding, holidays…..ect

I went through every newspaper and magazine that I kept to see if I still wanted, even found the Daily News Miner from Fairbanks, AK that I kept from the day the space shuttle Challenger exploded when I was in 7th grade.

I cleaned out my cedar hope chest and got as many of the photo albums stored in there.  Made sure that older the pictures got in there, ones that are from my grandparents and are about 50-100yrs old.

So now instead of everything all over, everything has it’s one or two container and is in one area.  I put so much stuff into the recycling and trash…..I’m hoping that if we do move from this house in 2012, that it’ll make our lives a bit easier for packing and such.

Been trying to attack my closet, especially since I lost weight there is a lot that doesn’t fit.  Some of that I’ve been shipping off to family members who may be able to use it.  The stuff is perfectly good and I normally donate it, but I like to try and help out my loved ones before anyone else.  You have to take care of family when you can, even when it is not much.  =)

We are having issues with my truck……ggrrr…  I went to do errands last Thursday and it wouldn’t start after I got out of the post office.  I had to call hubby for a jump.  We weren’t sure if it was the battery or the alternator.   I kind of was hoping for the battery, much easier to switch out and a little bit cheaper.  But as I laid in bed at night this weekend, I remembered that we just got a new one before we left FL in ’07 and it was a diehard.  (I’m a big believer in diehard batteries, once I have one I rarely worry about it.)  And the fact that we rarely drive the truck, may be 3k miles a year now….. I just felt in my gut it wasn’t the battery…plus our lives are never that easy.

We took the battery in for testing today and confirmed it wasn’t the battery….good that our diehard purchase was a good one and bad for it being more complicated.  Hubby took the alternator out of it today and we’ll take it in to get it tested tomorrow.  I’m hoping that is the issue, because for a ’97 I really don’t want to spend a ton of money….at least the truck is paid for.  But I’m really thinking that it is the alternator, we’ve had the truck since 2000 and haven’t had an alternator issue and it is over 100k mile, so it sounds about right.

Doesn’t seem like we got much of a summer…feel cheated, it was rainy and chilly through June and even at the beginning of July.  And that was after having an unusual warm winter and spring like weather that we went hiking in mid March to Smith Rock….weird.  We had a few hot days and stayed downstairs during those (no central air).  Only used the portable ac in the bedroom for one night and that was only due to someone throwing a beeping fire detector out…..that continued to beep…icks  We are suppose to get 2 more days of 90s this week and we our high Sunday was 68….lol  We did have a beautiful day today, after being chilly yesterday.

We are planning on heading to Crater Lake sometime next month.  Only the real good time to do so for us, school will be back in, less crowds and before it starts to snow (Oct).  Hubby found a bunch a little hikes, 2-5miles, but they will be steep.  Because it is about 6hrs away, we’ll be spending 2 nights camping.  And it is going to have some cold nights….extra blankets are in order.  Just going to take our MREs and some snickers, oatmeal and such…maybe some hotdogs, but no where the amount of food we took last time for camping.  Need to do a reminder practice on setting up our tent before we go….been a while and practice makes it much easier and faster when you need it and if it is raining.  =)

Been seeing some preseason football games on, nothing but a tease.  So looking forward to the kick off to the college season.  Even if a boring game is on, I’m so use to having it playing in the background that it always feels weird when the season is over.  That is from years of conditioning from my dad and my hubby….grin  I tell hubby that he needs to thank dad for his wife’s enjoyment of sports.  I know he couldn’t handle it if he had a wife that didn’t enjoy sports with him…..grin

Well, when I started this I was in the bedroom, moved myself out on the porch off of the bedroom to get some fresh air.  It is now about 2130 hours, dark with a few bugs….lol  This ended up longer then I expected.  But I think I’m going to go in, have me some wine with some extra sharp white tillamook cheese, crackers and some of our home grown tomatoes…..tasty.  =)

Summer Time

Current Mood:Accomplished emoticon Accomplished & Beautiful Day emoticon Beautiful Day & Contemplative emoticon Contemplative

I hope everyone has had a good summer beginning.  Ours has been below average on temps and way over on rain…icks….still waiting for summer weather…dry and comfortable.  We were in the 60s this pass Wed/Thurs and we are suppose to be hitting the 90s this upcoming Wed/Thurs.  Lets just say I’ll believe it when I see it.  I really don’t want it to hit the 90s…I want mid 80s, that is perfect.  Then our house doesn’t have that chill and we can wear shorts and tank tops.  =)

I did finally vacuum out my poor truck in about a year today.  Those spiders get into everything and left cobwebs everywhere….lol

We haven’t been up to much other then work and the normal.  We do need to get a hike in, that I would like.  Not sure where, at this time of the year the mountains and Crater Lake still have a bit of snow.  If it melting you have higher rivers/creeks to deal with when crossing.  So we have to balance that.

We will be heading up to Canada sometime this month for a bbq with our sister-in-law and our nephews.  It will be to in remembrance of D, since it has been a year that we lost him.  But it will be great to see how our nephews have grown, they are so young that they grow so fast.  I miss seeing them.

We are still doing the gym.  I know it sounds annoyingly repetitive, but considering it is so easy to fall into bad habits the fact that we are still doing a good one….I’m grateful and proud of.  It has been over 2yrs and I’ll take it.  I will say that I didn’t end the week on a good note.  I did good Mon-Wed, but Thurs and Fri I was not mentally in it at all.  I did get my cardio and weights in, but didn’t get my 20mins on abs.  It didn’t help that I didn’t do very well on my eating habits this past week.  Went over my normal daily 2k a day, so I need to do better this week. My sweet tooth and munch urges just kicked in big time….drove me nuts.

I spent the week doing my normal….working, what else?  LOL  Which is partly why I died at the gym Thurs and Fri, my brain was on that and won’t stop.

Last weekend I couldn’t get a hold of my extra sister.  Her dad isn’t doing very well at all and is in hopice and I knew that she would be visiting and dealing with the drama that is her siblings.  I knew that they would be totally, totally stressing her out and a few of siblings are good for tearing her down……and totally negate the ones that are supportive of her..ggrrr  So I was totally stressing about getting a hold of her and checking in.  Anything to make her feel better and let her vent.

Well, that didn’t happen, so I sent her encouraging texts and my little sister actually got lucky and got a hold of her.  Since I wasn’t doing to good on making contact to her, I googled her parents and got their number and made a call.  She wasn’t there, but I was able to find out what was going on and let her mom vent some.  Between me trying to get a hold of her, texting and my sister actually making contact, it was a help to her and made her feel better.

I was not happy to hear what her siblings was putting her mom though and I knew if mom was going through hell, then my sister wasn’t doing too well.  =(  I let mom know that I was in her corner and whenever she needed to talk, she can vent at me.

My sister’s siblings were totally surprised to hear that I even called her mom just to make contact, that I wasn’t too happy about what mom was going through and then turn around and my little sister called her.  Sad, that we give her more emotional support then her some of own drama selfish siblings.  If her husband wasn’t there for support, she would’ve totally lost it…no idea how he puts up with her family sometimes.  Tries and keeps peace just for her and her parents sake.

She is finally back home (a state away…which is a good thing when dealing with them) and eating, trying to get a sense of her self back, I spent 3 hours on the phone with her last night.  She couldn’t hold anything down while dealing with them.  I’m going to try and give her mom a call tomorrow to check in.  I just suck at it due to the 3hr difference.  I wish I could be there to help mom and her, those are the 2 that I really care and worry about.

My god daughter has made me feel old.  She graduated from HS, turned 19 and is now expecting her baby in Dec….wow.  I remember when her mom was pregnant with her at my HS graduation.  I was so totally afraid that she was going to have her right there…..lol  Ended up having her a few weeks later.  I was looking at some pictures that were just taken barely 10yrs ago….damn, she has grown.

I found some paper where I can make my own postcards.  If you didn’t know, when we travel I love getting postcards and sending it to my family.  =)  So now, unless we are doing a bunch of traveling and I want to get them postmarked from that location, I can just use the pictures that we take for them.  I totally love that.  Especially when we are doing hiking around here in OR.  I spent time figuring out how to the line up everything and even printing out the addresses and messages on the back.  With my horrible handwriting I’m doing the post office a favor…..lol  I already sent out postcards from our visit to the coast in May…..grin

Our kitties are doing good. Drew and Sakura are now 2yrs old.  Drew is such a long cat and is still in the over energetic teen stage that drives his sister Sakura nuts.  Sakura has become a chunk bugger that is addicted to brushing…..grin  She is such a spoiled daddy’s girl and Drew is very much a momma boy when it comes to bedtime.  Alexis is going to be 16 this coming Oct and tries her best to ignore Drew and Sakura….lol

I’m currently half way through President Bill Clinton autobiography, My Life.  It is huge with a lot of policy thoughts and stories on where they came from.  You can tell that he likes to show where an idea came from.  It is interesting.  I have Audition by Barbara Walters and My Thirty Years Backstairs at the White House by Lillian Rogers Parks that I would love to get into next.

It is amazing how long it takes to right just a few things…..lol….but that is what is going on so far around here.  =)

Oregon Coast

Current Mood:Accomplished emoticon Accomplished & Chilling emoticon Chilling

Well, due to our anniversary usually being on the holiday weekend of Memorial Day we try and do something the week before or afterwards.

This year we decided to finish off what we started 2 years ago and drive the last 108 miles of the Oregon coast we haven’t seen, from Newport to Cannon Beach.  In 2008 we drove from Cannon Beach to Astoria and in 2009 we drove from the California Coastal Redwoods up to Newport.  So we just needed to do the middle part.

Actually that part of 101 wasn’t as scenic as the southern part, but it definitely had it moments.  Agate Beach, Yaquina Lighthouse & of course, Cannon Beach were great.  We also totally lucked out and ended up with much better weather they it was suppose to be.

Torn got some totally stunning shots with the nikon, so I’m regretting that I put pics from both the olympus and the nikon together in one gallery.

Flying Cat, Police & SCOTUS

Current Mood:Beautiful Day emoticon Beautiful Day

Well, this time I remembered to put subjects down when I thought of them to remind myself of what I wanted to write about.  =)

Today we actually got a few things done, hubby got the place vacuumed of all the cat fur…not a fun job. We did some outside work.  Hubby got it done much faster then I thought it would take. I got #8 of strawberries cleaned and frozen, shortcake made, laundry done & a blog post.  Tomorrow, debating on making up some egg salad and need to finalize our taxes….fun, fun….  I really need to get back focused on our project….need to get that done.  What I need to do, is put on my ipod to my classical music and just tunnel vision myself.

I finished the Secret Lives of the Supreme Court last week. That was a very interest for a SCOTUS geek like me….grin I’m now reading True Compass by Edward M. Kennedy.  I’m really enjoying how he wrote it.  It is filled with humor, personal insight…..telling a story without it being dry.  So far you get to know people like he knew them….  I have been trying to give myself reading time…it really helps for chilling out and keeping my sanity.  =)

I so can’t wait for more hiking weather…just to get out of the house more.  The gym is getting ho-hum…I think I’m getting restless with it.  I don’t want stop it, just want to get more drive again and less boredom.  Changing between the treadmill & elliptical is helping.  But by the time I get my abs in, I don’t feel like getting my weights in….not good.  But as long as I’m maintaining for now, it is a good thing.  Once we get out more, it won’t be so bad.

We discovered that our other cat, Sakura, can fly….grin  But unlike her brother, she didn’t care that we saw her.  We have a black leather chair that spins with a foot stool about 5-6ft away from the end table.  As we were watching a Ron White stand up, I saw out of the corner of my eye a chunky furry body flying through the air from the end table to the chair….she landed on the top of the chair and it went spinning around in circles.  LMAO  She just looked at us like “What? I do this all the time”  Holy cow…..we just lost it…  I don’t get these 2 cats….we’ve never had cats act like they don’t give a rats ass about us correcting them and don’t care if they do things in front us that they are not allowed to do.  They are something else…we have never had cats fly before….LOL

There is one thing that I find very different to me here in Portland.  I guess there is a history of police brutality from the PDX police.  And from the news reports it sounds like they have taken a lot of steps to correct the actions of the past.  But there have been a few deaths from police shootings in the last year or so.  One of the shooting, sounds like the cop totally screwed up, but unfortunately we had one a few weeks ago and there has been protests….but this one doesn’t sound like a screw up.

This last shooting, the guy was covered in blood, had a knife and was acting crazy.  A knife is a deadly weapon, I would prefer and would hope that they could find another way to disarmed them….but a knife is not something that you play with when it comes to the public and your safety.  So with the info that has been released, at this time I feel it was more like a justified shooting….but I like to hear the all the info.

Now yes, I know that there are cops that abuse their authority….ever dealt with a small town cop on a power trip?  Not fun.

But now a days, in most places (there are some cites that are nothing but corruption…..not going to name the ones I won’t trust) most cops are just doing their job, trying to keep the public safe.

Maybe I just have been lucky with my dealing with cops, especially the county and state cops in IN, even when I’ve gotten pulled a lot when I was younger and dumber (very well deserved pull overs, 90% of the time). I’ve only had one bad experience, it was in FL and that was due his attitude and talking to others…this cop was known for being an ass….so I don’t actually count him.  Every other cop I’ve dealt with has always been professional.  I treated them with respect and it has always been returned.

My first two jobs were in food service and when cops and emergency responders came in they got 50% off. There are two main reasons for that.  One you know their jobs don’t pay…..so two, if you take care of them and they keep coming back they keep even a better eye on your place.  One of places I worked, it was the only location in all of Lake Country that hadn’t been robbed, because we had cops there all the time. And when they saw cars that they didn’t recognized in our parking lot after hours, they called us to check on us to make sure that everything was ok.  So it is a win-win situation.

So, even though I know that PDX police’s history has been spotty, I’m very uncomfortable with how quickly that they “burned at the stake” no matter what the info is….like the knife and the threats.  It so ties the hands of the good cops that are putting their lives on the line to do a thankless job.

Well, if you follow my tweets with all the links, you know that I’ve totally tied up in the retirement of Justice Stevens.  When you are addicted to politics, history and social issues you know that the Supreme Court is a huge part of our advancement in society, ie Civil Rights…women being allowed to control their own bodies.  What is really sad about Justice Stevens retirement is that he is seen as the force on the liberal side when he is actually old republican moderate.  It is the court that has changed.

The right-wing-nuts rally against “activist judges” (which is code for liberal judges) but their hypocrisy shows because the actual activist judges on the bench are the conservatives.  They are always rolling back our rights…..I feel as if they are going to throw us back to segregation and back alley abortions.  Screw our rights as long as corporations are allowed to do what they want and the white men keeps their power…..ggrrrr No ONE tells me what I can or can’t do with my body, my husband respects that.

Time to do a little bit of reading.  =)

My Happenings for the Month

Current Mood:Accomplished emoticon Accomplished

Been a while since an update. Same old same old….I have thoughts about what I want to blog about and then when I go and do it, my brain goes blank….so sad.

What I need to do, is do a draft post with just thoughts/subjects. So when I go and write one up, I have a reminder for myself.

I’ve been maintaining at the gym. Nothing earth shattering. After using the treadmill for about 18months straight, I’m getting a little annoyed on it. So I’ve been using the elliptical machine the last 2 days. I like that it is easier on my knees, feet & hands (I death grip the treadmill, no matter what speed). I also like that it working totally different muscles and so far, when I get off of it my legs feel jelly like. What I don’t like, is that it doesn’t force you keep the speed so I’m getting a good sweat but not the soaking, down pouring sweat that means I’ve burned more calories. According to the machine, I’m burning about 200 calories less and about 2 miles less then I’m use to. But I know that the speed I put on the treadmill is nothing that I would ever be capable of doing naturally without it forcing me and my death grip. So I just need to get my routine on it and with there being 2 versions of that machine at the gym, learn how to make them work the best for me.

Our kitties are still cute and ornery……grin Drew almost acts like a dog when you call him and loves to play with hubby on the cat tree. You try to correct either Drew or Sakura about something and they look at you like to say “what?” Heck, when hubby has pointed his finger at Sakura to scold her she turns around and rubs her face against it…..LOL Totally makes us laugh…..grin

Alexis is still hard at hearing, meowing (yelling/screaming) at us, because she can’t hear herself. Wondering if she is going senile, since she’ll do it in the middle of the night for no apparent reason.  She never use to make this kind of noise until she ended up sick over a year ago. Not she just hasn’t stopped…..drives us batty. I keep wondering if those 4 days at the vet for the thyroid treatment gave her separation anxiety. She hadn’t been overnight since she was fixed as a kitten 14yrs before. She is use to us traveling and leaving for a few days, but that is when she is left home with everything she is use to.  I just wish she would stop being so loud….

We had some friends come down for a visit a few weeks ago.  We took them to see Crown Point Observatory and Multnomah Falls, everyone has to see that when they visit.  =)

We finally did some Portland things and went to Voodoo Donuts & Powell’s Books.  Wow….those donuts were awesome….grin  And a bookstore, 3 floors and a whole city block…..I loved it!  Ironically my favor subjects (politics, history, social issues)  were under my favorite color (purple).  Need to go back down there and go to the Chinese Garden and visit more of the shops.

We have had a really mild winter.  According to the news we are about 6ft below the average snow pack on Mt Hood.  That is not a good thing….that is our summer water when we go into our dry season.  Part of Oregon are under drought warnings.  It is from the El Nino….all the wet weather is going either north or south of us….California and it flooding….that is our normal winter rain. So on one hand, concerned about possible drought conditions for the summer, but it really has been nice for winter.  Everything started budding in Feb, about 5 weeks earlier then normal.

With the nicer weather, I’ve been wanting to get out on one of the nice days.  So hubby found a nice hike in central Oregon, about  2 & 1/2 hours SE of here.  It is what they call the high desert.  Boy, once you are going down 26 on the east side of Hood, huge difference in the vegetation. You get use to all the green wooded area on this side of Hood and the Gorge that it is hard to imagine it being anything else until you see it.

We also really got to see Mt Jefferson better then we see from this side.  Normally we just barely see the tip of it on a clear day from high points.

Those smaller peaks to the south (left) of Mt Jefferson are the Three Sisters.

Closer look at the Three Sisters.  Hope, Charity, & Faith.

That “small” peak is Mt Hood.  So not use to seeing it look so small.  =)

We went to Smith Rock State Park for our hike (this was our trail http://www.nwhiker.com/SmithRockHike.html ).  It was only 4miles….which was nice distance wise……but it had heck of a climb up and down.  That 1st miles was a witch.  No matter how much you do at the gym, it never prepares you for climbs like that.  It just totally wipes out your stamina.  We did the hike in about 3hrs.  According to wiki, they have shot several westerns there and it is “generally considered the birthplace of modern American sport climbing

I’ve already posted all our of pics from this hike in my facebook.

I actually got a good pic of hubby.

Our traditional self-portrait.  =)

It was really great to get out of the house and our routine for a change.  I never like long drives, but we did get to see the snow on Mt Hood.  =)  With not getting our average the snow line was much higher then normal and melting.  Wasn’t even required to have chains on. We really want to explore all the different parts of Oregon for hiking.  So we are leaning towards the coast for our next day hike, since we haven’t done that yet.  We would love to get to Crater Lake for camping and hiking this year.

What Is Happening This Month

Current Mood:Chilling emoticon Chilling & Holiday Feeling emoticon Holiday Feeling

Boy, it has been a long while since for a true blog entry.

Well, gym wise I got up to 4 incline at 8.0 speed for 25.5 and still got up to 3.76miles in 30min.  Hubby had me use a 25# weight when doing sit ups instead of my 12# medicine ball, while holding it away from my chest.  My arms and abs are feeling it.  I’m still going between 150-154 weight wise, so I think I’m at my weight.

We’ve picked up and seen Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince and The Hangover.  I need to see how the last 2 installments of the HP series….to really see how it plays out.  The Hangover was funny, but weird.  Saw Love Guru last night….wow, that was bad….lol Watching Super Troopers now…this is really bad.  Netflixs comes in handy…don’t make the mistake of buying 90% of them.  =)

What have I been doing other then working and the gym…well, not much.

I spent a few days printing up my 5 page holiday letter.  It was about 7 pages, but I played around with fonts, margins and sizing down pictures. I also reworked where I put the pictures so I could print front and back and got it down to 3 pages.  Otherwise I won’t be able to fit it into the cards….lol  I didn’t think I had that many cards to send out, maybe 60 but ended up back up to my 80.

I wasn’t planning on a tree this year, since the wonder twins climb and bent the heck out of my artifical one. I was going to get one from Living Trees….but they don’t deliver out here.  I wasn’t sure about a cut tree because I didn’t know about whether the cats would be able to knock it down.  I also did some research and fresh cut trees are carbon neutral, especially here in the NW, tree farms are everywhere and this is their crop, that mattered a lot to me.

Since I was totally down and feeling out about not having a tree, I had to get one.  I was worried about the old metal ones that I remembered from my youth.  Today’s tree stands are much better then the ones I remembered.  And a farmer was selling them not even a mile from us and had the added bonus that they were donating $2 for every tree to the local HS.  Picking out a tree was hard, they all looked good.  But I finally picked out a beautiful 6ft douglas fir that they threw in the back of my tree.  Boy did it smell great in the house.  =)

The wonder twins love messing with it, but it seems too dense for them to climb it…big plus.  Drew has a thing for checking the water and digging the sheet away from the stand that I have there….lol  The goof….especially when they are playing with the toy mice.  But the bottom of my tree doesn’t look nearly as good and balanced as the top half, that lasted may be 1 day  I’m hoping that they are getting bored with the tree….they aren’t knocking the balls off as much and when we are downstairs I do spray them with the water bottle to discourage them.  I’m also wondering if it has anything with the fact that I’m unplugging the tree at night so they aren’t being drawn to the the shinny stuff.

I don’t think I’ll be using my artifical tree again.  If I don’t use it next year, I’ll probably drop it off at Good Will or Salvation Army.

I’m getting anxious for the 25th.  Can’t wait for hubby to open his gift…..driving me nuts…..lol

I ordered ice cream cake for my birthday for pick up Thurs.  Got a mini roll with mint chocolate ice cream, chocolate cake with fudge topping.  My mouth can’t wait to have some.  =)

We had some wacky cold for our area a few weeks ago……icks.  But we are now back to normal 40s-50s and rainy.  That is life in the valley.  Now if we were on Mt Hood, as you saw that 3 hikers were sadly lost, they were getting up to 30in a day in snow.  Don’t ever underestimate the power of the mountain and mother nature.

Current Mood:Chilling emoticon Chilling

**I originally started this on Saturday…well it is currently Monday evening….lol

I hope everyone is having a good weekend and is doing good in football (unless it is against my teams…lol)

So far, Purdue, Iowa, Penn St and Oregon won.  =)

The 3 undefeated teams in the NFL, Colts, Saints & Broncos all have former Purdue QBs, 2 of them are leading the teams.  BOILER UP!  Always a good thing.  =)

We got ourselves out of the office Sat. evening.  Just got tired of being in there and since I got my work caught up, I really didn’t need to be in there. I actually got caught up on some of my magazine reading, still have some more but hopefully be able to catch up this week while on the treadmill.

Lets see….where to begin….

We went out to Minnesota to visit hubby’s folks during the first full week of Oct.  We had a nice visit playing catch up.  The weather turned chilly and wet but still warmer then it was projecting.  Luckily we left the day before they got snow….lol  We weren’t ready for that.

We had a normal flight out, an okay flight back.  But one of our luggage missed the connecting flight in MN. Now I wasn’t happy about it, but wasn’t too worried.  This happened to my family years ago when we flew up to Alaska and they delivered the luggage to our door when it was found.

But when they called us stating that they found it, we found out that the girl who took our info screwed up and left the previous person’s name/info in ours and she did that to another girl. Which made no sense to me because she took our tag number and that should’ve pulled up OUR info.   So now they had to tracked down 3 different pieces of luggage and figured out which went to who.  Because we didn’t know until we got it, but they removed our old claim tag and put a new on there with the other person’s info?!?!  That was stupid!  Couldn’t they see that the names didn’t match?

So after different calls through the day from airline as they try to figure out what the previous person did, they finally found our luggage and got it out to us.  Which was a good thing, it had our flash for our camera in and a lot of clothes that adds up fast if it needed to be replaced.

When we got home, I pretty much spent most of my time just playing catch up.  We didn’t have the best connection or enough time for me to get that much work done while visiting.  I did enough that I wasn’t drowning or totally neglecting my duties.  After I finally caught up, which took less time then I thought, I had to get into my payroll prep.

It finally got somewhat reduced on the amount of accounts I need to take care of.  And didn’t have to do no where near the amount of fraud checks we had to in the last few rounds.  So that was a big plus.  Still had a lot to do, but much less intense.  Actually got through it all without losing my mind……..lol

Got enough done that we drove down to Silver Falls Creek State Park on Wed the 21st. It took us 2hrs to get there and it was rainy but still not a bad fall day.  We only did about 5-6miles of the Ten Falls Hike (skipped the 2-3mi loop with 3 of the fall) since we started later then we originally planned.  It the hike only took us about 2.5 hours since there wasn’t a lot of elevation change.  Amazing how much better our time is with out it. =)

Thursday we were just mentally wiped out, the flannel sheets on the bed felt so good and it was chilly out….so we stayed in bed and skipped the gym.  Didn’t feel that guilty about it since we did good on our hike the day before.  But Friday was another day that we stayed in bed…not good.  That past week I had been doing ok on the treadmill, but my abs was just tedious and I was annoyed by it.  So that just didn’t help me mentally. =(

Today I did pretty good and I’m happy about that.  I did good on my abs, just need to do more weights.

I was just blah those days. I forced myself to get my work done.  I didn’t actually start getting any motivation until Sat evening/Sunday. Today I got some work done ok and without an issue.  What I really need to start on is payroll prep.  If I get a good head start on it that would my life so much easier in this round.  Especially since I won’t be working that much on the 31st evening so I can give out candy.  =)

I was going to post this with pictures, but it is taking me longer then I thought to edit them.  So I’ll post them later.

Mt Hood Hike

Current Mood:Beautiful Day emoticon Beautiful Day & Accomplished emoticon Accomplished

Watching the Purdue/Norte Dame game and it is totally stressing me out.  We are always getting hit with penalties……gggrrr  I love my Purdue football, but they stress me out big time……

As you saw from my tweets, we went for a hike Wed.  Two different maps list it hike we took from 9.3 mile – 9.7 mile…..according to my pedometer we did 12miles….which is what it felt like.  It ended up taking us 8hrs & 10min….our 12mile hike last year took us 8hr & 20min.   So I was totally not happy with our time considering it was 2+miles shorter.

But as we look back on it, we didn’t take into the fact that we were starting at 4400ft so the air was thinner. Our total elevation increase was only 1400ft, compared to the 2900ft last time….but unlike last time, this wasn’t just straight up and straight down.  We went up and up…..but then went back down a couple hundred feet so we can cross a muddy glacier river and then back up and up….lol  So looking back, that did slow us down.

The most frustrating part hike was the when the trail went through the ski slopes.  The trail was barely wide enough for single file and it was so deep, like it was cut out that you keep tripping on it and had to keep yourself from falling on your face.  That really slowed us down.

So that was the logistics of the hike.  =)

Mt Hood

Taken from the parking lot of a different trail head.  We were looking for ours.

But it really was a beautiful hike, it felt like more adventure then a hike.  We hiked through the forest, on the side of ravines, down “gravel” pit (for lack of a better word), had to cross the 1st glacier river we ever crossed and lost count of how many streams and falls we had to figure out how to cross.

Words and pictures doesn’t do this justice.  This ravine was stunning.

Hiking on down, so we can get to the slope on the other side.

You can barely see the trail we took down the side of the slope to get the glacier river.

The muddy glacier river we had to wade in.  Luckily hubby thought ahead and we brought our beach shoes that we got in FL.  That came in handy, the water was very, very cold and went just below my knees.  This pic is about 10ft about the river.

One of the many mountain waterfalls.

The ski lift looks so high, but imagine about 15-20ft of snow underneath those chairs come winter.

I didn’t think my camera got this!  This is from one of the ski slopes we crossed.

Umbrella Falls, about 2-3 miles before the end of the trail.

I will say, no more 10+mile hikes.  We are thinking of more like 5-8miles.  Because by the end our feet/toes and other parts are hurting from the extreme up and downs.  Of course, it doesn’t help that we were carrying over 20# pack wise.  90% of the stuff we had in our packs we didn’t need, it was all emergency stuff…like extra clothes and food, in case we were stuck on the mountain over night and first aid stuff.  But it is much better to be safe then sorry. =)

We did skip the gym the day after the hike, but only that day.  We did end up going Friday and even with our aches and pains, we did really well, surprisingly.  So we are pretty proud of that.  Last year we couldn’t move for like 3 days….lol  We still have some aches, 2 of my toes are feeling weird, but not too bad otherwise.

I spent Thursday trying to catch up on my work from Wednesday, but mentally it was a bitch…..lol  My brain had a hard time focusing.  But I got it pretty much caught up on Friday with a few lose ends to do, nothing unusual.

Today, I have just been doing a combination of personal and work projects, more personal…..like catching up on a bunch of mags that have piled up on me.  So I’m pretty content that way.  Now if Purdue would win this game, it would be a perfect day……gggggrrr

What’s Happening In My World

Current Mood:Accomplished emoticon Accomplished & Chilling emoticon Chilling

Been a while since I posted and time for another one.  Now where to begin….

We’ve been needing new laptops, ours are like 4-5yrs old and obviously outdated.  I personally was trying to hold on until the new windows operating system came out because I HATE vista.  But I was getting really worried about my pc, locking, shutting down……fans going all the time….not a good sign.

Well, hubby has had enough…we are tried of the antivirus programs that hog your resources, the continuous updates that windows has you do and frankly, vista was unforgivable.  So he decided on a macbook pro, screw pc with windows.  He got one last month and really likes it.  There are things that are weird on it but he is much happier with it.  He has been trying to convince me to get a macbook pro, but there would be no way unless I can use quickbooks and convert my files.  I can not do my job without it.

I found that QB does have a mac version and that there is even a mac version of office, which I needed for word & excel.  So after watching hubby with his new macbook and finding those programs, I too finally got a macbook pro.  A basic one that with only $100 extra let me go from 2gb ramm to 4gb ramm!  And after using my laptop with 1.5gb ramm….wow, big differences.

I got it on Friday the 8th, so I spent the weekend transferring files over and setting it up and learning it. We ordered my programs that I needed and of course it was a holiday weekend, so we didn’t the stuff until Tues….doh.  So I spent Tues trying to get those set up, had to get a new keyboard/mouse combo since my other one was for windows and get work done AND get ready for my friend that was coming out on the 11th for the Oregon/Purdue game in Eugene.

During all this stress and work, Sakura lost a claw while freaking out when she got caught in a plastic bag.  Now we didn’t know she lost a claw from this…they were playing with the bag, like all of previous cats have, so we didn’t think nothing of it.  Then we hear this huge commotion, see Drew fluffed up to 2-3times his size, heck we thought it was Sakura because we almost never see him do that.  He is all freaked out and when we finally find Sakura, she is behind the couch stuck in the handle of the plastic bag.  The water was a mess and the food was tipped over from Sakura running with it.  That was on Fri the 8th.

So late Sat we noticed that something was wrong with her walking, there was blood marks here and there.  We had just trimmed their claws like Wed/Thurs, so we are freaking out thinking we cut too far and she got an infection.  Of course the next day was Sunday, the vet was closed and then Monday was a fracking holiday…closed also.  We read online about soaking it in epsom salt, so we did that to her annoyance.  When we got her in Tues they made room for her because a claw infection is a serious thing.  We found that the salt helped, they gave her antibotics and saw that she lost her claw.  And when talking to the vet, it dawned on hubby that it wasn’t from the trim. She didn’t jerk when he did that claw and we only do the tips.  It was from the bag incident.

She is doing much better, lets us look at her claws (well, within reason) and looks to have another one growing.  But the messed up thing, is that Drew got into another plastic bag in the spare room a week later the morning that we were leaving for Eugene and the same damn thing happened!!!  It freaked him out so bad that he wet himself.  We don’t think he did it has bad as Sakura’s but he lost 3 of them.  WTF?!?  We’ve never had cats do that before.  His claws are already back to normal after a few times in epsom salt.  But no more plastic bags are allowed to be accessible to the wonder twins.

It was great to see my friend!  I haven’t seen her since her wedding.  She finally got here Thurs after her flight was late and we went to a pub that we liked to go to and just relaxed.  She was so thoughtful and brought us this Purdue football season t-shirts!  Friday we took her to the local sights, Larch Mountain & Multnomah Falls.  Then her and I visited the outlet mall nearby.

Saturday we drove down to Eugene, took us less time to get there then we thought it would. Saw a ton of Oregon Duck fans on the way. =)  Got a lot of stares for our Purdue flag and clothes…..grin

When we stopped for lunch and walked in….the host was wearing a duck jersey and just stared.  Hubby was like, yup all 3 of us….lol  Everyone was nice and good natured.  We found the stadium much easier then we thought we would and need kill time before they’d let us in, so we chilled out at the park surfing on our phones.  Now we were hot as heck and hid in the shade.  It hit 90degrees…icks So totally above our average at this time of year.

When we finally got in, the entrance we took was right next to the enclosed practice field.  And the Ducks do a really cool thing with it before the game.  They put a plastic/rubber cover on the field set up a bunch of tables/chairs, tvs, a bandstand and concessions.  It was really nice and great place to hang out and stay cool.

Then the oddest thing keep happening.  Oregon fans keep stopping to make sure that we were treated right and welcoming us to Eugene.  That was weird, but very cool.  When we got to our sets, we were surrounded by Ducks…the Purdue Alumni was about 2 sections over, but we did get a Purdue family in front of us….lol  Overall, the Oregon Duck fans were really cool.  We were so hoping that they wouldn’t be like Wash Husky fans who are the rudest and have the worst sportmanship we have ever encountered.  The OR fans were the standard fun trash talk & good natured ribbing that we were used to in the Big Ten.  The way it should be.

Autzen Stadium is a really nice.  It has really nice setup for the concessions and bathrooms.  And it is LOUD.  It is the loudest one I’ve ever been in.  My ears rang forever afterwards.

It was extremely slow going on the I-5 going home.  It didn’t actually clear up until we got on the 205, which was like 20min away from home.  But we still made better time then we thought we would with all that traffic.

Sunday, my friend was happy to just stay at home and chill out while watching some football.  I was actually able to get some of my regular work done, while she surfed and work on my other laptop.

I got up about 05:30 to get her to the airport Monday and actually skipped the gym due to all the payroll I hadn’t been able to get to.  Go thing that I did, learning the different version of the programs I use slowed me down and I had a ton of new people to add to it.  Payroll on the 15th is usually my easiest……not this time.  I can normally get it all ordered before bed on the 14th (since I’m on the west coast, cut off is midnight eastern)…..nope, not until Tues was I able to order it.  Then we have this fraud scrubbing we had to do, that I still have 6 people waiting on that before I can pay them.  I ended up 2 days behind on the catching up the books and spread sheets.

And if you saw my tweets, having major issues with the reconciliation in the mac version of QB.  I finally got it to work, but they really need to get it up to speed.  I expect differences between Mac QB and Win QB, but some of those differences are horrible.  Using Mac QB is like using Win QB from 6 yrs ago.  I know that this is like only the second year of them making a version for Mac again (didn’t have one for 7yrs) and that was due to apple’s decline.  So they have to rebuild it, but come on……I should be able to change my fracking fonts and the reports not look like something out of high school….ggeezz.

I usually wait 3-4yr in between my QB upgrade, but if they can get some of these basic changes in the next version I’ll get it.  Of course, I have to see it in action 1st to make sure that it is there. But for now, I’ll just work with it and hope for the changes.

So it has been a stressful week work wise and learning wise.  I’m finally taking time out for my own little work things.  Like getting our photo printer hooked up to my mac and getting the software downloaded for it.  I figured out how to import pictures through photo shop, because there is no way in hell that I’m using iphoto.  That is horrible system for people who want to do their own thing……you can’t even find the pictures on the HD when you import into that, you have to use that damn program….ggrrr.  It is enough that it gets under my skin and I’m so, so happy that I can use my photo shop for it.  =)

Need to learn the FTP program that we have for the mac.  Not sure about it, seen hubby use it and I don’t like the layout and he doesn’t either.  Seems unorganized….which is not us.

Since the kids are finally back in school we have some nice weather left, we are planning a day hike later this week.  We are looking at this trail : http://www.nwhiker.com/MHNFHike27.html

It almost 10miles and only a 1400 ft difference in elevation (after our last one of 12miles & 2900 ft difference, doesn’t seem as bad…lol)  What is going to be kind of strange, is seeing the east side of Mt Hood.  We live west of it and are used to that west outline of it.  I’m getting so psyched for this.  The pictures on that link look beautiful and I love hiking.  And since we did our 1st big one, we are much better on trying to prepare ourselves.

We will have to leave here around 6am, since it is about 90-120min away.  We don’t want to run out of daylight like that last time…..now that was scary because that trail got very rough and dangerous.  I’m HOPING that it will only take about 4-6hrs.  The last one took 8hrs & 20min and as I said longer and bigger elevation difference which slowed us down.

So now I’m trying to decide what I want to do…….thinking of attacking some pictures.  If I get the galleries made it force me to learn that FTP program we have. But today, other then making sure there aren’t any fires at work, I’m just trying to work on my own thing and watch some football.  =)

Hot Week!!!

It has been a hot week and half…..yuck.  Yes, I know I’ve been complaining about it a lot, but when we moved here we didn’t expect to have this kind of heat.  We had a few days last year, but that was only in the low 90s….here we hit the 100s for 3-4 days. We set a new record of 10days of constant temps over 90.

We did set up our portable ac in the bedroom for a few days.  We tried not to use that much, because it really only gets that room and is noisy.  Central air is so much better….portable ac units are not efficient.  We love having fresh air, Oregon spoiled us on that because even if it gets humid it is no where near as bad as it gets in the midwest & Florida.

We got a high of 84 yesterday, which is perfect!  Takes the chill out of the house and is so comfortable.  Today the high ended up being about 74 area.  Our house is shaded in summer and with the nights get down to the 60s/50s again it left the house a little chilly longer today.  Kind of funky…went from barely wearing anything to hubby wearing a sweatshirt today….lol  Only in Oregon.

We are suppose to finally have a chance of rain in the next few days.  I really hope we get some, we haven’t had any in about a month.

Now with the temps more normal, time to see about planning some hikes.  I will admit we are so looking forward to the colors of fall already.

I’m watching Mamma Mia! again…….lol  I think I have the hots for Brosnan…..but then there are a lot of cute guys in it, even if they are on the young side….grin  Wow….sad that I now see the age on the young ones……lol  I didn’t recognize Rosie as Molly Weasley…I didn’t recognize Bootstrap Turner…..grin  Damn, I love my ABBA, way too many happy childhood memories to that music and I can’t hear that music without giving me images of Germany.

This weekend was payroll….every time you think you are finally done with one payroll period another sneaks up on you…lol  I finally got all the work caught up yesterday and was left feeling lost.  Today I had some work, but no where near the amount I had a few days earlier.

What I need to do is work on a few picture galleries for my family, back up my pc, and catch up our holiday letter.  I just haven’t been able to find focus and when I find motivation for it, it is time to bed….so messed up.  Now I need to pack some clothes for a few days.

A very good friend of ours mother’s has passed from a long fought illness and they are having a party to celebrate her life.  So we are heading up to Seattle for it.

My dad finally got skype and made his first call.  He didn’t warn me when he called so I didn’t have my head set ready…lol  I was just trying to get him to use the chat….grin  Then he wanted to use the cam feature.  Of course, that is a feature I’ve never used….so we both were learning that at the same time, it was funny.  Now he just needs more lighting. =)

I even got to show him Drew….lol It took him getting a new laptop to finally get skype…lol  Now I wonder if mom will ever use it.

Our Trip

Current Mood:Accomplished emoticon Accomplished & Beautiful Day emoticon Beautiful Day & Sleepy emoticon Sleepy

You know, I had started a post a few days ago and it has disappeared….wacky.

Watching WALL-E while doing this.  I love this movie!

I spotted my 1st raccoon in our neighborhood. I heard something up on the neighbor’s roof, thought it was one of the many squirrels, looked up and saw him.  It was hard to see him with losing daylight…..but he would come to the edge of that roof and look towards me as I talked to him.  =)

Today, I was actually able to get my work done after getting bombarded with things needing answering as soon as we got back from the gym.  I actually got time to get some things down around the house and have time to write up a blog. =)

My abs are sore as hell, that is what I get for not doing anything for week.  I can’t even laugh without it hurting.  But because my abs hurt, I’m not feeling the pain in my thighs, that I know is there.  And my new nose piercing isn’t hurting until I do something goofy, like hit it……..lol You don’t realize how much you touch your nose until you can cause pain doing it……grin

For those who missed my tweets (check them out…because I do post pics), I got my nose pierced Sunday and hubby got his other nipple done.  Since we got our anniversary presents early (the iphones in Apr) and we went camping last week for it, I knew we weren’t going to do much on it.  So I wanted to finally get our piercings done on a special day just to break it up especially since I was going to be working late on payroll.

Here is a hint, never have your wedding on a holiday or end/beginning of the month.  Messes up planning, so that is why we plan our celebrations early.

We went camping for the 1st time since our honeymoon….damn, can’t believe it has been that long.  We brought our tent and sleeping bags for our anniversary last year, but with trips and moving, never got to our camping.  So a year later, we finally got to use our stuff.  =)

We went down to the Redwoods in CA.  We took the quick route down, I-5 until we needed to cross over to 101.  Once we got to 101, we got to see some stunning scenery…huge trees and beautiful coastal views.  Once you opened your windows you could smell the forest….I love that smell.

We stayed at Prairie Creek campgrounds.  They have the last herd of Roosevelt Elk that frequents the meadow.  It was so cool to see.  They were just getting their antlers, so those were small and covered in felt.  The meadow was a fern meadow and not very tall at all, but it was amazing how they could easily hid in it.

We got a very nice spot, felt semi-private and tucked away.  We had one of the faucets for water right in front of our site, worked out nicely for washing dishes.  The fire grill was kind of high and big.  So you could sit and get the heat of it very well and with the size, couldn’t get good ashy fire.  The fires that are steady with the burning that makes it easier to cook over.  But we enjoyed anyway and learned a few things.  =)

We got our tent set up pretty quick.  Practicing in the living room really helped that.  =)  What flustered me, was that we try extremely hard to be organized and we couldn’t maintain that at all.  Always having to get our stuff out of the bear box and then forgetting that we had snacks and lotions..and stuff in our travel bags that we needed to put into the box….boy, we need more practice….lol

I know that camping is suppose to be roughing it and that doesn’t bother me, but I’m a female and love having a bathroom with running water.  And that campground had that.  =)  I really wasn’t looking forward to latrines….males have it so much easier for that.  They even had a few coin operated showers, which was great on the 2nd night after hiking…even if it was chilly on the walk back.

On the second day, we went hiking to the Tall Tree Grove.  That was really, really cool to see.  We had to get a permit to use the access road to get to it.

The 2nd night of sleeping was much more comfortable then the 1st night.  Think we were finally getting settled in it.

On the third day, we took the 101 out all the way.  We wanted to drive the Oregon coast. Wow is what I have to say about that.  It was a winding and hilly road, you really had to take care.  But it was stunning.  It was cool to see the sea and mountain air hit to make just beautiful mist.

We stopped at a great diner called Kozy Kitchen in Coos Bay. We had the best Turkey Manhattans ever, of course they were called open faced sandwiches and looked at us as if spoke a different language when we called them that……lol

We were going to drive all up to Cannon Beach, but we were so tired of driving and just wanted to chill.  So we ended up staying at Newport and got a room with a jacuzzi.  It was nice to chill out and check up, because we haven’t had a steady connection since we left home…lol  You don’t get the ATT 3-g network in the Redwoods or 90% of the drive up to Newport…grin

We had decided to head home the next day, but before we did that, we visited the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport.  It is one of the best ones I’ve ever seen.

What was surprising about our trip is that we got totally perfect weather for it!  At this time of the year the Redwoods it is normally rainy.  This time, it was sunny and clear, in the 60s and got to the mid 40s at night….perfect!

Even Portland has had great weather since Memorial Day and they haven’t had a non-rainy Memorial Day since 2005, I believe they said on the news….lol  We are suppose to get some thundershowers in the next day or so, but compared to last June with the constant chilly rain, I’ll take.  We have been having some perfect weather.

Overall, I really enjoyed myself even with the small things that drive you batty.  It was great to be out in nature and have fresh air.  Felt wacky as heck not to have some sort of online access, sadly……..lol…but nice.  I do need to learn how not to do anything again, felt kind of wierd doing that.

I know that I should post more, but I spend a lot of my time working online, going to the gym, laughing at our cats, and doing everyday errands.  So I really don’t have much to post about.  Hell, I think most of my tweets are about work………lol  I need to work on that.  No one wants to hear the same thing over, over again.

And I’ve started to use twitter to make my comments on politics most of the time, since they are shorter and not long rants.  Boy, I could do some ranting about what has been going on….grin

I can tell you that our cat Drew loves to “roar” for no reason at all…….grin  He is always touching stuff….I swear he has ADD…..LOL

**We are trying to figure out why my blog is not updating with my daily post of tweets, it is really starting to piss me off beacause it makes it look like I’m not trying to let you know what I’m doing and I don’t care about my blog……ggrrr
